Quick Start Guide
If you’re new to Savvy Org Charts, setup takes just a few minutes. Follow the steps here to install and activate the add-in.

1 Open Excel and navigate to the Savvy Org Charts tab

Getting Started & Using Savvy Org Charts

If you’ve just installed the add-in and don’t see the Savvy Org Charts tab, follow these steps:
Close the file Excel opens automatically after installation.
Open a new Excel workbook or any existing file. The Savvy Org Charts tab will now appear in the top menu (next to Home, Insert, Data, etc.).
If you still don’t see it, go to Insert → My Add-ins and make sure Savvy Org Charts is enabled.
💡 Tip: You can also install the add-in directly from Excel:
Go to Insert → Get Add-ins → Search “Savvy Org Charts” → Add

At minimum, you’ll need:
Employee ID (unique identifier)
Employee Name
Manager ID (ID of each employee’s manager)
Optional fields include Job Title, Department, Location, Compensation, or any other data you’d like to display.

Our Hierarchy Builder automatically transforms flat employee data, which usually contains only employee-to-manager relationships, into a complete organizational structure. It’s a huge time-saver and enables deeper analytics that would otherwise take hours of manual work.

Most issues are caused by data formatting. Try these steps:
Confirm that Employee IDs and Manager IDs match exactly.
Make sure top-level managers have blank Manager ID fields.
Check for circular references, such as an employee reporting to themselves.
Use the Reset button to start fresh if needed.
Licensing & Plans

Licenses are subscription-based and valid for one year. Each license is for a single user, and Enterprise plans include multiple users. Subscriptions renew annually, and prices are shown as monthly equivalents

The Basic plan includes all the essential org charting tools, 2-level views, and the Hierarchy Builder, plus access to email support.
The Professional plan builds on that with powerful advanced features, including 3-level views, org analysis tools, scenario planning, deeper customization options, filtering, sorting, color coding, and the ability to save multiple chart presets. Professional users also receive virtual onboarding and training to help your team get up and running quickly.

Absolutely. You can start with the Basic plan and upgrade at any time. We’ll credit the remaining value of your current subscription toward the upgrade.

The demo version works with sample data only, so you can explore every feature. Once you’re ready to use it with your own data, you can purchase a license to unlock that capability.
